Community Guidelines
Burdn is anonymous, not lawless. These guidelines explain what belongs here, what doesn't, and what happens when something crosses the line.
Last updated: October 24, 2026.
What Burdn is for
Burdn is a place for adults (18 and older) to say what they are carrying, anonymously, and to get honest, supportive replies from other people. Anonymity is what makes that honesty possible. It is not cover for hurting anyone.
These guidelines apply to every Burdn, reply, reaction, persona name, and report. Our Terms of Use require you to follow them.
Some posts are examples written by the Burdn team. They use the same persona masks members choose and describe made-up situations, and you can report them like any other post.
The basics
• Be honest — but don't target, harass, or pile on a specific person.
• Keep replies supportive, constructive, or respectfully honest.
• Remember there is a real person on the other side of every Burdn.
What's not allowed
• Harassment and bullying, including targeting, mocking, or piling on a specific person.
• Threats, encouraging violence, or instructions to harm others.
• Hate, slurs, or dehumanizing attacks on people based on protected characteristics such as race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
• Sexual content involving minors, or any child sexual abuse or exploitation. Burdn has zero tolerance for this — see our Child Safety Standards at burdn.app/child-safety.
• Sexually explicit content.
• Encouraging, promoting, or giving instructions for self-harm or suicide.
• Graphic violence or shock content.
• Doxxing: sharing another person's name, phone number, address, workplace, or other identifying details, or trying to identify, de-anonymize, track, or expose another user.
• Impersonating another person or organization.
• Spam, scams, advertising, solicitation, or external links.
• Illegal content or activity, or content that helps someone carry it out.
• Evading a block or moderation.
Talking about your own struggles
You can talk honestly about your own pain, including thoughts of self-harm or suicide. That is not against these guidelines. What is not allowed is encouraging or instructing someone else to hurt themselves.
Burdn is not a crisis service and does not monitor posts in real time. If you are thinking about harming yourself, please reach out to someone who can help now — our Support page lists crisis resources at burdn.app/support#crisis.
Keep your own details private
Burdn works best when no one can be identified — including you. We discourage sharing your own phone number, email address, social media handles, payment handles, or other contact details in Burdns or replies. Content like this may be removed, both to protect you and because Burdn is not a place to move conversations elsewhere or to promote anything.
You may mention a company, product, or service when it is genuinely part of what you are sharing and is not promotional.
How to report
Open the ••• menu on any Burdn or reply and choose Report. Pick the reason that fits best:
• Harassment or attack
• Hate or abuse
• Doxxing or exposing someone
• Threat or violence
• Self-harm concern
• Spam or duplicate
• Sexual content involving minors
• Other
Reports go to Burdn's moderators. The person you report is not told who reported them. You can also hide the content or block the account behind it from the same screen.
If you cannot use the in-app tools, email support@burdn.app and describe where the content appeared (for example the persona name, topic, and approximate time).
How blocking works
Blocking applies to the account behind a persona, not just to one persona name. Once you block an account, you and that account stop seeing each other's Burdns and replies.
To block, open the ••• menu on a Burdn or reply and turn on "Block this account". You can review and undo blocks at any time in the app under You → Blocked accounts.
How moderation works
Some content is screened by automated checks before it is published. These checks look for certain threats, slurs, terms associated with child sexual exploitation, and links. Content they catch may be rejected or held back from publishing. Automated checks are not perfect and do not catch everything, and we do not review every Burdn or reply before it appears.
Burdn reviews reports. Reports about urgent safety issues, such as a threat to someone's safety or the safety of a child, are prioritized.
What may happen
When we find a Burdn or reply that breaks these guidelines or our Terms of Use, we remove it from Burdn.
You can also protect yourself at any time: block the account behind a persona, and you and that account stop seeing each other's Burdns and replies.
Content involving the sexual abuse or exploitation of a minor is handled under our Child Safety Standards, including reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where the law requires it.
Asking for a second look
If you think your content was removed by mistake, email support@burdn.app with the subject "Appeal". Tell us roughly what was posted and when, and which sign-in method you use. Do not send us a password, sign-in code, or other credential.
A member of the team will take another look.
If someone is in danger
Burdn is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services right away.
If a child is in danger, contact emergency services first. You can also report to NCMEC's CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org.
For crisis lines, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US, see burdn.app/support#crisis.
